As holiday shoppers hit the stores this season, they’re mostly choosing retailers in Petaluma when buying gifts. Whether they prefer a local store or crafter, a majority said they would keep their purchases local this holiday season. Many are also enticed by the ease of shopping online.

——

“Actually, I try to do most of my shopping in Petaluma, which includes local crafters and stores. But I also do some online as well. Overall, we don’t spend that much at Christmas on gifts, but spend time and money on being together doing traditional things — that’s the real gift.”

——

“I plan to shop at locally owned stores in Petaluma or from individual artists and crafts people. I will not be shopping at Target or any of the other big box stores in Petaluma or elsewhere.  In fact, I avoid those stores as much as possible.”

——

“Unfortunately, I will probably avoid downtown. It’s dirty and usually there is no place to park.”

“I buy most of my gifts at the recycle center at the Cotati landfill.”

——

“I shop local in Petaluma and other towns throughout the year, and supplement what I can’t find locally by shopping online from actual artisans on Etsy.com.”

——

“Holiday shopping should put — or keep — you in the spirit of the season. Big box megastores just don’t do the trick, so we’ll shop at smaller downtown shops locally.”

——

“We always try to do all our shopping in Petaluma at locally owned stores to support our community. The only out of town shopping we currently do is when we need building supplies, but once Friedman’s opens that will end those trips.-”

——

“We are shopping at several malls in Marin, where there is plenty of parking and no road ‘diets’ or construction delays to deal with. Petaluma continues to lack many desirable stores. We will also will do more online shopping this holiday season.”

——

“K-Mart, Raley’s, Ross, Trader Joe’s, Fundemonium and Kohl’s. Sorry west side — the traffic getting across town from the east side is just too miserable.-”

——

“If local crafts and arts are available and within my budget I definitely will support local artists.”
