It’s hard to get away from news of the drought, which has dominated media coverage across the state for weeks on end. While no specific action is required yet, many Petaluma residents are doing their part to conserve the water resources that are still available. In an online poll, 75 percent said they had changed their habits in the home or garden to cut back on the need for water.
Here were some of the comments.

“Yes indeed — I stopped watering lawn, flush selectively, take shorter showers, turn off the faucet when brushing my teeth, purchased a low-water washing machine and wash only full loads for both laundry and dishes. Also, I don’t wash the car anymore, just the windows at a gas station. Creating a rock and cactus garden instead of plants.”
——
“No — Because best online casino every time we do, they hike our rates, that never drop back.”
——
“We’ve made a conscious decision not to water any of our outdoor plants unless or until the drought is officially over, and are looking into purchasing and installing a water catchment system for our roof runoff to capture water for various uses. Any plants that don’t survive will be replaced with drought-tolerant natives.”
——
“We’re not watering the yard at all. We’ve always conserved water anyway; we both remember the drought of the 1970s.”
——
“I use grey water to water the garden.”
——
“The city council allows the new East Washington Place shopping center, the soon to open Deer Creek Village shopping center, not to mention new home construction, all of which require more water, and they want the rest of us to conserve? Really?”
——
“I’m sacrificing my lawn by shutting the sprinklers down.”
——
“Our family never stops our water conservation measures. It seems crazy to me to ever use extra water when you live in Sonoma County.”
——
“Just look at my lawn.”
——
“I stand in a bucket in the shower and then bring the water out to the garden. Also, I am washing my clothes less often.”
——
“I suggest we break away from Southern California. Can someone explain why they get to use our water when they are a desert?”
——
“I already conserve, drought or no drought, so no, I am not doing anything different than usual.”
