Basin Street Properties has proposed a mixed-use development, to include a hotel, residential housing, offices and retails space, on the vacant lot on Hopper Street. A small majority of respondents in this week’s poll opposed the idea.

“If there’s not enough water for the people already here, why the heck are they trying to attract more people and exacerbate the problem?”

“Petaluma does not need another mixed-use project. We have enough projects and enough development.”

“The traffic might be tough, but it will be a great benefit to improve the blight in the area.”

“With all good conscience, projects of this magnitude should be put on hold as we try to deal with an historical drought situation and uncertain future.”

“Make the area a protected open space area —no development.”

“Stop the development. Enough is enough. I do not want see my city emulate Rohnert Park.”
