More than three out of four people who responded to an Argus-Courier online survey March 20, 2008 say they are living a “greener” lifestyle than they were five years ago.
But respondents are divided about whether the community of Petaluma as a whole is doing enough to protect the environment.
Here are some of the comments of those who responded to the survey:
” “
“We always shop with our canvas bags. Just keep them in the car!”
” “
“Many of us have been living green for years. Petaluma is not a green city. None of our major westside streets have bike lanes. Our local transit is a joke with no night and Sunday service. And there are many on our City Council that would love to see still more unoccupied homes and commercial spaces here. We need to change but we can’t until we change the City Council.”
” “
“As consumers, we need to demand vehicles that use alternative energy other than fossil fuel. The technology has always been there. The oil companies do not want us to use it, since it does not line their pocketbooks.”
” “
“The city should provide services for grass removal and replacement with something more environmentally friendly. Even a design center/Web page would be helpful where I can go and look at choices to replace my grass. What are good plants, bulbs, trees for Petaluma? Heck if I know. Raise the water rates and use the excess gain as a subsidy for grass removal. Simple.”
” “
“Petaluma should outlaw plastic bags. Bring your own! Would outlawing grass lawns go too far? Hmmm. I’d be for it as long as I could get help replacing mine.”
” “
“The whole ‘green’ movement is too ‘P.C.’ I wish it was more real and not so much hype. I wish we could all just do it and not be asked or told to do it.”
” “
“It can be overwhelming to go green. There are so many thing to be aware of.”
” “
“I’ve always conserved and recycled, even when it wasn’t the ‘in’ thing to do. That is why I never get any rate breaks on any of the utilities, because I am already cutting back, so my usage doesn’t go down to I never get a break like the users and abusers of our utilities. There’s never a break for the good ” only the bad.”
” “
“Man, it was cold this year.”
” “
“Green living is a bunch of hype. Just act responsibly all the time. This is just more Al Gore BS.”
