Reduction in office hours and staffing levels at city offices apparently hasn’t been much an inconvenience for local residents, according to an Argus-Courier online poll Nov. 20, 2008.
Some 29.7 percent of respondents said the closures have affected them either “somewhat” or “very much,” while 64.8 percent said they were affected either “not very much” or “not at all.”
Asked if they have noticed any negative impacts as a result in the reduction of office hours and staffing levels, 29.7 percent said “somewhat” or “very much,” while 64.8 percent said either “not very much” or “not at all.”
Here are some of the comments by those who responded to the survey.

“I believe that the City Council has been very judicious in the reduction of office hours and staffing levels. If there is someone in our city that has better ideas, I sure didn’t see their name on that last ballot.”
” “
“It won’t affect most of us. But those it does affect, it will affect a lot.”
” “
“Try make do even a small building project and you will run into a bureaucratic void.”
” “
“I don’t believe that I’ve visited any city offices for any reason the entire time I have lived here, which has been almost 11 months.”
” ”
“As citizens, we should be able to live with this as long as we plan thoughtfully. For those whose pay is cut, it’s another story. You have my sympathies and best wishes at this time.”
” “
“The community center needs a paint job! Why can’t someone organize a volunteer day to spruce it up? Some donated paint and community service hours from our young graffiti offenders would be helpful!”
” “
“It is too early to tell! It affects me insofar as it affects the lives of those who lost jobs or hours.”
” “
“The public needs access to information and to democracy.”
