Scam artists targeting the elderly appear to have many victims in the community, based on the results of this week’s Pulse of Petaluma online poll.
About 46 percent of those responding to the poll had been or knew a victim of elder fraud.
Only 3.8 percent weren’t sure, while 50 percent had not been victimized and didn’t know any victims of such fraud.
About 92 percent of those responding to the poll said they would report such a scam, while 7.6 percent said they would not.
Here are some of the comments.

“Elder Fraud — that is what’s going to happen to the next generation of Social Security recipients when the promises that were made are not going to be kept. ‘Hi, I’m from the government and I’m here to help you.’”

“It’s a sad world we live in where the elderly, become the target. It’s an ever sadder world when you have to have a survey about it, asking if you would actually report it.”
