About half, or 48 percent, of those responding to this week’s Argus-Courier online poll thought that legislators should support some version of Gov. Jerry Brown’s 12 point pension plan, which legislators are expected to vote on in the next two weeks.
About 31 percent, meanwhile, thought they shouldn’t support the plan, and about 21 percent weren’t sure.
Here were some of the comments:
——
“It’s not a yes or no question. Some points are very good and some need modification. Clearly changes need to be made based on the fact that the public sector worker has better retirement benefits than most private sector workers.”
——
“Moonbeam Brown is definitely on the right track (to lead California into fiscal doom).”
——
“Cops give up nothing — their pensions are legislated. Fire isn’t much better. Rank and file and non-union middle management get screwed.”
——
“Why should we trust these birds? After the fiasco of finding $54 million dollars casino in the state parks budget I can’t help but think there is more of this chicanery going on in Sacramento.”
——
“Who will make the determination what jobs can be worked by an employee until they are 67 years old? Having an employee pay half of their retirements is not very realistic. After all other taxes what would they have to live on month to month? Are all state government workers included in this , such as the governor, legislators and staff. or are there going to be special loopholes for them?”
